Fenn School’s motto, Sua Sponte, translates from Latin as “in your hands.” Rather than a demand, Sua Sponte is an invitation for each boy to set his own course and shape his own destiny.
Annual report
Dan Beard Design has been entrusted with the job of producing Fenn’s annual Report of Giving for the past several years. While narrative and design elements have shifted with each year’s report, the overall goal — to communicate the philanthropy of the greater Fenn community — has remained consistent.
School magazine
The school’s bi-annual magazine was in need of a fresh new look when Fenn contacted Dan Beard Design for help in 2014. The challenge was to move the publication toward a cleaner, more contemporary aesthetic without alienating the population of a school that is steeped in history and tradition. We introduced more white space, established a clear typographic hierarchy, and improved the quality of photography throughout.
We have succeeded at embracing Fenn’s future in its publications while holding on to important elements of its past. As design work continues to evolve, the magazine reflects the transition to a new head of school and the construction of a new campus center, while honoring long-held school traditions.
